By The River - large fused glass bowl - 35cm diameter
This is my latest favourite … and the largest piece I’ve made (at 35cm across).
Inspired by the reed beds and the River Alde at Snape, this is my interpretation in fused glass of the beautiful landscape with a myriad of blues to represent the sky at different times of the year, and the ever changing colours of the reed beds from golden in summer to a subdued green in winter, but it’s always a beautiful place to visit.
I wanted to make this piece for a while but it wasn’t until I got the chance of entering the Spring Exhibition at the Snape Maltings for Suffolk Open Studios that I took the plunge to make it.
It’s an ambitious piece for me … the design took some days to get right together with the choice of colours. The design was tricky to cut with big sweeping curves (which test my cutting skills) but I was delighted with the result.
One of my most favourite things is the way the light shines through it and creates a wonderful pattern underneath, like a stained glass window. Recently, I found out the term for this is ‘transillumination’.
This would make a fabulous centrepiece for a table and a great souvenir from Suffolk :)
Dimensions
Diameter: 35cms, 5.5cm deep
Handwash only with care.
The original piece has been sold but this design can be MADE TO ORDER. Delivery will be in 4-5 weeks.
